If you’re thinking of a vacation in New York, planning ahead is really the best thing you can do. There are simply so many different things to both see as well as do that you have to possess at least a basic notion of how you want to pass your days before you can start out. New York is among the greatest cities on earth, it didn’t achieve that title for no reason and it has a long history which is a huge part of its greatness.

If I were to choose the way to use my time in New York and which incredible things about New York City to show to my children, I would opt to introduce them to those things that held the greatest amount of historical significance. I would want my children to comprehend the history of our country good and bad and I wish them to someday instill in children of their own the critical nature of such history.
By going to the national parks initially, I can enjoy the benefits of their cost because free is good almost any way that you slice it, particularly if both you and your children are receiving an education. Ellis Island is a wonderful place to visit, but I think I will show them the Statue of Liberty from far away rather than taking the ferry to it. There is just so many things to do within this beautiful city and every second counts, however I want them to have an excellent time just as much as I want them to gain a few incredible pieces of knowledge. Insights which they can share with their friends at school as well (something other than the newest Playstation game that is coming out soon).
Some of the essential national parks I would love to bring my kids to include: Federal Hall, where Washington was sworn in, Grant’s Tomb, the birthplace of Theodore Roosevelt, and finally Clinton Castle, which was designed in order to keep invaders out. I would also love to bring them to Saint Paul’s Church, though not for spiritual reasons, simply for Religious freedom issues. I think there is an important lesson to be learned here even today, perhaps particularly now.
I believe the lessons which may be taught about the history of our nation in NYC are just as essential as those lessons which may studied in Washington or Philadelphia. This country has come far on it’s path to democratic independence and we have stumbled a couple of times along the way. There would have never been the Salem Witch Trials, the Civil War, or the Civil Rights Movement, however we’ve come so far and still have so far to go. I want my children to learn from our past and to look forward to our future.
I think these are the lessons that we can get from our state parks and these are a lot more important than any lesson we could pick up within toy stores or by throwing a Frisbee in Central Park. I wish for my children to go to museums and toy shops and see new cultures, I also want them to take home with a deep sense of the history of our special nation.
